Released in July of 1964, "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" by Manfred Man is actually the second release of the song. It originally was performed by The Exciters ("Tell Him") the year before.

Of Course, Manfred Mann took it to the top of the charts in both their native U.K. and the U.S.A., each for 2- week periods.

Fun Fact: "Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" was revived in the 1980s in the movie "Stripes"... as a great marching tune!

Another Fun Fact: Jeff Barry was a co- writer of the song... whose composing credits also include classics such as "Da Do Ron Ron" (also featured in Stripes!), "Be My Baby", 'Sugar Sugar" and many others!
