Sunday Side Up Motown Moment: "My Girl" by The Temptations
John LockwoodMarch 12, 2021
Released in December 1964, "My Girl" was an early Christmas present for The Temptations, becoming their first #1 hit song! Written by Smokey Robinson and Ronald White of The Miracles, the inspiration for the tune was Smokey's wife and Miracles member Claudette Rogers Robinson.
Fun Fact: Originally intended for The Miracles, "My Girl" was given to The Temptations, the first one featuring David Ruffin on lead vocals.
Another Fun Fact: The strings you hear on "My Girl" are performed by The Detroit Symphony Orchestra. You can't get much more Motown than that!
