Within 50 years people will be able to have “virtual children.” Computer-generated babies are likely to become common by the
early-2070s. The virtual reality babies will grow up in real time – starting in the virtual womb. They will be capable of speech and
simulated emotional responses – like a baby’s coo, a child’s giggle, or a teenager’s backtalk. They will cost nothing to feed, take up no space, and remain healthy for as long as they are programmed to “live.”
