Because men clam up when they interpret what women are saying. Men hear something else.

A wife might say "Everything will be okay.” – the husband hears “It’s stupid to worry.”

WIFE- “It isn’t that bad.” – Husband hears “your problemisn’t important enough to continue talking about.”

WIFE “Let’s do something else to get your mind off this.” – Men think women are trying to change the subject.

WIFE “I used to feel that way” – Men hear “Oh, grow up.”

WIFE - “You don’t mean that.” – Men think women are telling them it is bad or wrong to feel the way they do.
